New for 2013: text message confirmations!

February 23, 2013

Your lawn is important to you.  It’s important to us too!  So when the lawn is done or there is a problem you should be alerted immediately.  Now you will be;  LawnMowingOnline has added text message confirmations!

Messages will be sent to the phone number on your account under the following circumstances:

  • confirming the order has been placed
  • the order is accepted by a contractor
  • the contractor sends a message
  • the contractor has completed the order

Contractors also receive a text message when customers send them a message.  This great new feature will allow customers and contractors to contact each other faster so everyone knows the status of the order.

Fundable features LawnMowingOnline, offers more cities, services

September 6, 2012 has chosen as one of it’s featured startups.

We’re only asking for $1,000 to add more cities and our ultimate goal:  allow customers to post any job they need done and choose the best contractor based on reviews and price.  Need hedge trimming?  We can do that.  Snow shoveling?  Yep that too.  Roofing?  Air conditioning repair?  Painting?  Yes, yes and yes.  Sky’s the limit.

Right now we’re 1/3rd the way there with $345 and 13 days left!  Please consider backing us so we can continue to provide lawn mowing and many new services.

2012 sales already surpass 2011 sales

July 28, 2012

On Sunday, July 22nd, sales in 2012 surpassed all of the sales made in 2011.

This is very good, because there are still five full months left in 2012, with the mowing season being three of those months, August being one of the busiest mowing months.

Of course all of this depends on the weather.  Saint Louis and Dallas could really use the rain, while Houston’s weather has been great, rain a few days, sunny a few days, etc.

Let’s see how August goes, if Dallas and St. Louis receive that much needed rain it could be a great month for mowing lawns.

Happy 3rd Birthday – paid contractors 161k, saved customers 116k

June 22, 2012

June 19th marks 3 years since went live in 2009 and we’ve come a LONG way.

Birthdays are good days to reflect on the past so sere’s some numbers of how we’ve been doing:

  • 7,772 lawns have been mowed
  • Orders have almost doubled each year, so orders in 2010 were double 2009, 2011 double 2010, etc
  • $161,617 have been paid to contractors (wow!)
  • Customers have saved roughly $116,000 compared to if they were paying the average lawn mowing price of $35

That’s… amazing, really, when you think about it, and we’re only in 4 cities, imagine how far we could go if we were in every major US city?

The 161k paid to contractors is the really great part, because that is money the contractors probably wouldn’t have received any other way, so we’re helping a lot of people earn a living during this poor economy.

Thank you to all the customers who have continued to put their faith in us to have their lawn mowed and the many great contractors that do all the hard work.

Saint Louis Mayor Francis Slay visits LawnMowingOnline office

May 21, 2012

A few weeks ago Saint Louis Mayor Francis Slay stopped by the office of to give an award to a startup we share office space with and to see how startups are doing in St. Louis.  It’s not every day you meet the mayor of a large metropolitan area so I was a bit excited to meet him, especially since it was business related.  Here’s the photo, sorry for the toothy grin 😉

Why do customers love

April 3, 2012

You may have noticed we have a lot of positive reviews.  Here’s why customers are so happy with

1)  Guarantee – If the contractor does not do something right, he has to return and finish the order (within reason of course).  If he does not he is not paid.

2)  Mowed on your schedule, not company’s – Need your lawn mowed tomorrow?  We can do that.

3)  No phone calls – It’s 2012, who uses their phone to make calls anymore?

4)  Tipping – In the past we had a problem with a few orders not getting done on the date scheduled.  It wasn’t that the contractor didn’t show up, the problem was no one accepted the order.  It all came down to money; maybe that was an expensive area, maybe they lived in the middle of no where, maybe it was a “bad” area people avoided, who knows, point is we said we could mow for $19 and then no one took the order and it made the website look bad.  Not anymore, by allowing customers to add a tip the customer can now decide exactly how much the contractor should receive.  Live far away?  Add a tip.  Exclusive neighborhood?  Add a tip.  Best part is the tip can also be added after the order is placed, so customers can order, see if anyone takes it, and if they don’t add a tip and the contractors are told the order is available every time a tip is added.

Customers LOVE tipping.  We added the feature just one week ago and customers have already left dozens of tips.  One customer added a tip every hour until the order was taken.

5)  FAST refunds – Refunds are sent the same day they are requested

6)  Message the contractors – Customers can send a message to the contractor that accepted the order and the contractor can respond.  Also if there’s a problem the contractors can send a message to the customer and let them know.

7)  Easy online ordering – because no one likes something complicated

8)  Photos – not everyone needs it but it’s there for those who do

Those are the reasons has had over 6,000 orders.

So what’s not to like?  Unfortunately there are some limitations to what we can do:

1)  We can’t do phone calls (yet), too many problems with contractors constantly calling customers for more work or customers repeatedly calling contractors after they stopped mowing lawns.

2)  We do not offer a regularly scheduled mowing service yet but we do plan on offering it this year

3)  We don’t offer bagging (yet).  In some cities it is illegal to throw away grass clippings, so the contractors would have to drive the grass to special disposal facilities.  Rather than figure out what cities it’s illegal and charge more for those areas it’s easier just to only offer mulching.

4)  We don’t pull weeds by hand (yet), we don’t trim hedges or trees (yet), we don’t rake leaves (yet) but we can mulch them with the mower, we don’t fertilize (yet), we don’t pick up gumballs (yet)…. think that’s it

5)  Not every order is accepted the first day, but with the new tipping system that problem has been practically eliminated

Eventually we will offer all of those services, it’s your continued support that allows us to continue to add new features bringing us closer to offering great lawn care service across the entire United States.

St. Louis provides office after seeing 2011 sales

March 24, 2012

Well I got great news:  the city of Saint Louis has provided with office space!  We now have a office in “T-Rex”, a Technology Entrepreneur Center in the heart of downtown St. Louis that encourages high tech entrepreneurship through mentoring, programs and access to capital.

Located on the 12th floor of the Railway Exchange (hence “T-REx”) Building at 611 Olive Street.

First new office photo!

A little sparse at the moment, I’ll have to find some more plastic plants 🙂

So what convinced the city to provide LawnMowingOnline with space?  I think it had something to do with attaching our IRS 1099 for 2011 to the application 🙂  Not saying how well we did last year but let’s just say it’s an impressive number and it’s all thanks to our terrific customers and contractors!  Thank you!  We’ll be sure to return the favor by offering more cities so everyone in the US can save money on their lawn or make money mowing lawns quickly and easily!

Take care and have a great weekend!

LawnMowingOnline sees sales rise 65% in 2011

February 7, 2012

Despite the worse drought in history hitting the US in 2011, LawnMowingOnline saw a tremendous increase in sales, a full 65% increase.  This means we paid contractors roughly $80,000 and saved customers over $30,000 compared to the nearly $50,000 paid to mowers and saving customers almost $20,000 in 2010.

As long as we’re not hit with a second worse drought in history we should expect to see a similar increase in 2012.

A special thank you to all of our 2010 customers who returned in 2011 and told their friends and family to order, we couldn’t have done it without you.
