June 2014 = 5 years of

June 25, 2014

5 yearsWow… 5 years already! went from an idea to a reality on June 19th, 2009, when the website first went live and accepted orders.

Here’s what the website looked like in July 2009 according to the Internet Archive Way Back Machine

Quite a difference 5 years have made!  In that 5 years we have saved customers hundreds of thousands of dollars (millions?) and provided local contractors with hundreds of thousands (millions?) of dollars in lawn mowing jobs they would not have had any other way.

Birthdays are good for reflecting on the past, and 5 years is a lot of time to reflect on:

  • tens of thousands of lawns (hundreds of thousands?) mowed since 2009
  • Orders have over doubled (tripled?  quadrupled?  it’s a lot) every year since 2009, so orders in 2014 are over double the orders of 2013, 2013 had over double the orders of 2012, 2012 had over double the order of 2011, etc.  That means we have been growing exponentially since we started in 2009!
  • Local contractors have been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (millions?)
  • Customers have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars (millions?) compared to if they were paying the average lawn mowing price of $35

I think that’s great, that we have been able to help so many people in so many areas with such a simple concept.

The best part is helping the people that contract with the website to mow lawns.  Many do not own large lawn mowing companies, they don’t do this full-time, they mow evenings and weekends to help make ends meet.

I asked some of the contractors why they signed up for and here’s some of the responses I got back:

  • “I need a means of employment”   –   Sean, Georgia
  • “to earn extra money in-between other jobs”   –   Seth, Ohio
  • “I need the money and enjoy doing yard work.”   –   Jason, Texas
  • “Looking for additional income with a stable company”   –   Damon, Ohio
  • “I am desperate for a job that pays. I have a family to provide for, and any job is better than no job.”   –   William, Texas
  • “Out of work”   –   Tony, Georgia
  • “I would like the extra income to support my family.”   –   Lamare, Missouri
  • “Extra income to help out with the family new born baby. just came a few months a go”   –   Don, Illinois

These are some heartbreaking responses, so it feels good knowing my website is helping to provide income to so many people in need.  But I could not do that without the support of the customers.

Here’s to another 5 years.
